As one of the most essential appliances in your home, when your washing machine breaks down or stops working properly, you want a solution as soon as possible.  Like most appliances, washing machines can develop problems over time which require repair to put right.  If you fail to get them fixed, you could be looking at more expensive repairs in the future.

But what are the common signs that you might need a washing machine repair?

Your washing machine is leaking

A leaking washing machine can range from a small drip to a fully-fledged flood in your home.

Either way, however big or small your leak, you shouldn’t hesitate in calling a professional to check your washing machine out.

Your washing machine won’t turn on

Is your washing machine failing to turn on?  Like any household appliance, problems with the electricals can happen from time to time, if your washing machine is failing to turn on you may have a tripped breaker or faulty wiring and should call an appliance repair man.

The drum won’t drain properly

A common problem that can lead to washing machine repair is poor drainage. A washing machine drum that won’t drain properly can be caused by blocked supply or drain hoses, leaving you with you with soiled, damp clothes that are harder to dry!

If your washing machine is old, you may require a hose replacement, the problem can also be caused by a warn belt or motor which prevents your internal pump from working at its best.

Your washing machine makes loud noises

Is your washing machine extremely noisy? Is it creating a banging noise while running?  This is usually caused by improper levelling, although can be an indicator of an internal problem with the machine.

Over time the feet or your washing machine can become unlevelled which can cause the appliance to rock while in running.  In the long term this isn’t good for any washing machine as it puts strain on the internal components and can lead to a more expensive appliance repair.

Often the problem of poor levelling is a relatively straightforward fix, however if you still notice the problem after adjusting the feet, you may need further repair.

If you notice any of these problems, it’s probably time to schedule a washing machine repair from a trained professional.  In many cases your washing machine can be repaired without the need for an expensive replacement!

I am glad to know that I should get my washer checked out because of loud noises. I was just going to keep letting it go a bit longer. But, I don’t think that is a good idea because I am sure that will only make it worse. I don’t want to have to get a whole new machine, I just want to be able to fix the one I have now.

I like that you mentioned making sure to pay attention to funny noises your machine may be making. It is easy to simply throw your clothes in and walk away, but you may miss some signs of damage. You want to be able to detect issues early to save money.

It is good to understand that a leaking washing machine is a sign that your machine needs to be repaired. I did not know that a leak could range from a small drip to a fully-fledged flood. Looking for an appliance repairman who is licensed and insured would be a good idea to ensure that the worker and your home are secured during the project.

My washing machine has been making loud noises just like your mentioned. It sounds like someone has been leaving rocks in their pockets. I’ll check the leveling like you recommend, but I suspect there are other worse problems.

My washing machine recently has been leaking, and I’m not sure where the source of the leak is. Maybe it would be a good idea to have a professional come and take a look like you suggested. That way, we can get this problem taken care of quickly.
