Founded in 1881 in Ohio, Tappen is one of the oldest appliance brands in the country and started by selling stoves. Tappan later went on to create the first microwave oven for home use in 1955 and invented electric ignition for gas ranges in the 1960s.
It wasn’t until 1979 that Tappan was acquired by Electrolux and remains a division of the parent company to this day.
