For many of us, our refrigerators last a long time without too much trouble.  In many cases it can be difficult to know when you need a refrigerator repair.  As an appliance that we rely on every day, it’s important to know when there’s something wrong, so you can get it repaired as soon as possible.

Signs you need a Refrigerator Repair

Here are 5 common signs that you have a problem with your refrigerator.

Food isn’t as cool as it should be

If your food seems to be going off quicker than normal, or the food doesn’t seem as cool as usual, it could mean your fridge is struggling to maintain the right temperature.  When this happens it is a sign that your refrigerator is using more energy than it should, wasting money and meaning you have to throw food out more often!

If you notice that your food is going off or isn’t as cool as usual, schedule an appliance repair as soon as possible.

The fridge is making a whirring noise

If you notice an unusual clicking or whirring noise coming from your fridge, you should schedule an appliance repair as soon as possible.  It is normal for fridges to make a little noise from time to time, however pay attention to any strange noises after plugging the fridge in or opening the door.

There’s water under your fridge

Discovering a pool of water under or behind your fridge is concerning for any homeowner.  Check the rubber sealing around the door to see if there is any water or mold growing.

There’s condensation in your fridge

If you notice water accumulating in your fridge it probably means that your fridge isn’t keeping the right temperature.  If the problem persists for a long time you should consider scheduling a repair as soon as possible.

The food in my fridge has not been that cold this past week. I just thought that I accidentally turned down the temperature. Turns out that I didn’t. I am going to be getting the fridge repaired this week so all of my food doesn’t go bad!

If your fridge looks like it is sweating, due to condensation. The seals around your refrigerator door may be damaged, not allowing the refrigerator to be insulated.

This is some great information, and I appreciate your point that food not being as cool as it should be is a sign you need fridge repair. My milk usually lasts for several weeks, but I’ve noticed that it’s starting to smell and taste funny after a little more than one. The temperature is set where it’s supposed to be, and I think there’s a problem, so I’ll definitely look into having a professional come and repair it. Thanks for the great post!

You wrote on your site that if you find a pool of water under or behind your fridge, it is a pretty sure sign that you need to get your refrigerator repaired.
